Reconstructive Surgery

What is a nose reconstruction and when is it performed?

About 5 to 10 percent of people who have rhinoplasty need reconstructive surgery to eliminate unresolved nasal problems. There are various reasons for the need for reconstructive surgery, including the following.

  1. Incompetence of the doctor

One of the most complex cosmetic surgeries is rhinoplasty, which requires high skill and precision. One of the important principles of rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance and proportion of the nose with other facial features. If the surgeon is not skilled, the patient will encounter the following problems that require secondary surgery to fix them.

  • Nasal cartilage prolapse
  • Nasal bone prolapse
  • Asymmetrical nostrils
  • Internal or external collapse of the nasal valves
  • Inadequate nasal changes
  • Excessive narrowing or thickening of the nose

  1. Obstruction of the patient’s nasal airway

The goal of rhinoplasty is not only the aesthetic appearance of the nose; this surgery is also functionally important, and the person should be able to breathe easily after the operation. If the surgery is not successful, the person will have breathing problems and will not be able to breathe easily even while sleeping. In such cases, secondary rhinoplasty is required.

Other cases that may require secondary surgery include:

  • Cleft palate
  • Cancerous lesions
